Elbaite (Tourmaline)

ID: CC20747
Oh my!  What a beauty.  A large miniature which looks just fabulous from every angle, the base included!  From Coronel Murta in Minas Gerais, Brazil and standing 6.8 cm tall, this green, pink, and yellow Elbaite Tourmaline looks stunning, and once back-lit, sensational (assuming sensational trumps stunning!).  Describing this while back lit, the base is intense candied-cherry to bubble gum pink and on examination probably forms a double termination, but of different morphology to the opposite end. This 5 mm layer changes to emerald-leaf-green and then electric lime-green, to mild candy-pink, then culminating with a honey-lemon complex pyramidal termination.  Despite its thickness (3.5 x 2.7 cm) the compound prism remains highly translucent and does include more random patches of deep bubble gum-pink.  In one small crevice of the termination sits a creamy-white plate of Albite Feldspar.  Overall, it’s a delicious treat of lustrous rhubarb or candied raspberry and lime, a wonderful Elbaite from Minas Gerais.
