Fluorite on Sphalerite

ID: CC20772
Punching beyond its size in the Heavyweight category, a majestic giant Fluorite crystal with Sphalerite from Elmwood mine at Carthage in Tennessee, USA. In essence, a large colourless cubic crystal, 9.2 cm on its longest side and interpenetrant with at least two other part-Fluorite crystals which exit the main crystal on three sides. The Fluorite is joined to a 1 to 2 cm thick bed of metallic chocolate-brown and black Sphalerite which is more an associated mineral than matrix. The Fluorite is slightly milky and translucent overall, but does have several quite gemmy transparent zones, particularly at some corners. Adding to the aesthetic, areas of some faces are dappled deep lilac. The crystal surfaces are a patchwork of juxtaposed slightly stepped cubic faces with a variable lustre between dull and waxy and bright and glassy. An excellent Fluorite with Sphalerite from the Elmwood mine. Please note this specimen may carry an additional postal cost, more for its weight than its size.
