The Bull Vein was originally the feeder conduit for the surrounding pockets in this part of the Lady Annabella mine at Eastgate. During the upward passage of fluoride-rich hydrothermal brines, Fluorite crystallisation also occurred along the vein walls and this specimen is a delightful, slightly acidic lemon-yellow example. Equant (equal-sided) and elongated cubic Fluorite crystals form an interpenetrant cluster, with equant crystals to 1.2 cm and those elongated to about 1.5 x 1.3 x 0.9 cm. The crystals are gemmy, grading towards more cloudy translucent interiors with edges and outer surfaces which darken to apparent black, sometimes as dendritic structures. These are mysterious, for when you examine it closely, they disappear, so are some form of ephemeral optical effect. A wonderful small miniature of lemon Fluorite from The Bull Vein.
