The Fairy Holes Pocket at Lady Annabella mine is named after a natural cave system into which the former Eastgate-Blue Circle quarry impinged and partly consumed.  This fabulous miniature is composed of many interpenetrant twinned Fluorite crystals enveloping an iron and Galena-rich altered limestone matrix. The twinned crystals vary in size from about 1.4 cm up to 2.1 cm on their longest edges.  All the crystals are of the elongated cubic habit, an uncommon form throughout the Weardale valley.  All crystals are a leafy-emerald green and many show mild colour-zoning between subtle shades of green.  There is one exception however, this being just one crystal of the largest twin which sits on top of the specimen at the back right.  This is beautifully colour-zoned with bright emerald-green edges and a mild lilac interior.  It is also this crystal which almost explodes with intense Royal purple natural fluorescence when held in direct daylight!  Many other twins do fluoresce but with diminished intensity.  It is interesting to note, despite the twinning, it is only one crystal in the large twin which fluoresces so bright, indicating differing distributions of rare earth elements within this twinned pair.  A fabulous Fairy Holes Pocket Fluorite from the Lady Annabella mine; a mine rapidly gaining a reputation for its amazing diversity of top-quality Fluorite specimens.
