This classic Native Silver is from the historic Freiberg Mining District in Saxony, Germany, and encapsulates in miniature form all that one admires in a large museum specimen. Several thin wires of Native Silver stand vertically on a 3.5 x 2 x 1 cm matrix of light grey Quartz coated in glistening micro-crystals of colourless Quartz. Two prime wires standing almost 5.5 and 4.5 cm tall rise out of the matrix somewhat twisted and contorted, but vertical, nonetheless. Other significant wires of note measure 2.5 and 2.0 cm and a stubby 4 mm broad ribbon stands 1 cm above the matrix. Several smaller twisted ramshorn wires sit on the matrix surrounding the larger wires. The wires are delicate and the specimen should obviously be handled taking great care, but they are robust so as not to bend or sag in any way once displayed. The thickest and tallest wire is approximately 1 mm square in section with all other tall wires narrower than this. The Native Silver is tarnished to a sooty blackish-dark grey and all have a matt lustre. Each wire has rope-like strands and these tend to twist and gently spiral as the wires rise higher. The two tallest and two of the shorter wires are encrusted around their tips with small clusters of micro-crystals of Quartz, like those covering the matrix. A beautiful miniature of classic wire Native Silver from Saxony.
