From a recent find in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), a fascinating double pseudomorph of Chrysocolla replacing Malachite after Azurite. The original tabular Azurite crystals measuring up to 3.9 cm tall are encrusted with glassy transparent colourless Quartz crystals that add a sucrosic-textured sparkle to the underlying turquoise sky-blue Chrysocolla. The Tenke-Fungurume area delineates a 30 km copper-cobalt mineralised zone between Tenke hill and Fungurume hill in the Kolwezi mining district. A darker mineral occasionally tinges the Quartz grey-black. The back of the specimen reveals a central core of dark emerald-green Malachite to each of the pseudomorphed crystals, so displaying the sequence of paragenesis. This delightful miniature is adhered to a square colourless acrylic base.
