This beautiful and interesting Chrysocolla is a pseudomorph after Malachite which is itself a pseudomorph after Azurite. Hence, the morphology (shape) of the original Azurite crystals is preserved in the slightly turquoise, vivid sky-blue Chrysocolla which is totally covered with micro-colourless and transparent crystals of Quartz. These give the specimen a brilliant, sparling glassy lustre. From the Tenke-Fungurume area of the Kolwezi mining district in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, one side and the base of this small miniature displays Chrysocolla and Malachite not coated with Quartz and therefore showing their true, more intense colours. The largest pseudomorphed crystal measures around 2.5 x 1.5 x 0.8 cm. A delightful specimen from the Kolwezi mining district of the DRC.
