Chrysocolla ps. after Malachite ps. after Azurite

ID: CC21072
An excellent discovery of Chrysocolla replacing Malachite after Azurite and coated in Quartz, was made in 2019 in the Tenke-Fungurume area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in central Africa.  This discovery has produced magnificent, double pseudomorphs of intense sky-blue Chrysocolla replacing Malachite after Azurite, the colour of the Chrysocolla being a stunning intense sky-blue.  A final phase of mineral deposition coated these specimens a thin drusy layer of sugary, gemmy Quartz crystals which now give the entire specimen a bright and sparkling glassy lustre.  This magnificent specimen is a good cabinet-sized piece composed of numerous former Azurite crystals now pseudomorphed to Chrysocolla.  The pseudomorphs commonly attain 3.5 cm in length and occasionally reach 4 cm.   They form a plate of intergrown towering peaks and deep, shadow-filled troughs, all sparkling due to the drusy overgrowth of micro-crystalline colourless Quartz.  The underside of the base reveals a brilliant turquoise-sky-blue Chrysocolla mixed with light leaf-green Malachite.  The DCR is the second largest country by area in Africa and the Kolwezi mining district is situated in the mid extreme south, to the north of Zambia.  The Tenke-Fungurume area delineates a 30 km copper-cobalt mineralised zone between Tenke hill in the NW and Fungurume hill in the SE of the Kolwezi mining district.  A classy and show-stopping specimen from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
