During 2019 an excellent discovery of Chrysocolla replacing Malachite after Azurite and coated in Quartz, was made in the Tenke-Fungurume area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in central Africa.  This discovery has produced magnificent, double pseudomorphs of intense sky-blue Chrysocolla replacing Malachite after Azurite, the colour of the Chrysocolla being a stunning intense sky-blue.  A final phase of mineral deposition coated these specimens with a thin drusy layer of sugary transparent Quartz crystals which now give the entire specimen a bright and sparkling glassy lustre.  This is one of the best specimen we have seen; a large cabinet specimen composed of almost countless former Azurite crystals now finally pseudomorphed to Chrysocolla.  The pseudomorphs reach 3 cm long and are intergrown to form a tangled nest-like structure, punctuated by the odd broken crystals which reveal an inner core of brilliant turquoise-sky-blue Chrysocolla and deep leaf-green Malachite.  The DCR is the second largest country by area in Africa and the Kolwezi mining district is situated in the mid extreme south, north of Zambia.  The Tenke-Fungurume area delineates a 30 km copper-cobalt mineralised zone between Tenke hill in the NW and Fungurume hill in the SE of the Kolwezi mining district.  A magnificent museum-quality specimen of Chrysocolla replacing Malachite replacing Azurite from the Kolwezi mining district of the DRC.
