Specimen mining began at the Erupción mine in Los Lamentos, Mexico, during the 1920s although the world-class Wulfenite specimens this mine is now chiefly known for were not discovered until 1968. Other great finds were next made in 1976 and then finally in the early 1980s. This large cabinet specimen is fit for any fine natural history museum collection the world over, consisting of a 13.7 x 11.0 cm plate entirely covered with orange caramel toffee coloured tabular Wulfenite crystals to 1.5 cm on edge. The crystals are typically 3 to 4 mm thick and slightly deepen in colour towards their centres, giving a layered sandwich-like appearance. Their faces are mirror smooth and all have a brilliant reflective lustrous surface. The Wulfenite sits on a layer of snow-white Calcite covering a deep maroon granular matrix. A truly magnificent Wulfenite from Erupción mine.
