Giumentaro mine sits almost in the exact centre of the Italian island of Sicily, to the west of Mount Etna.  This was a Sulphur mine which did produce good Sulphur specimens, but it is for it wonderfully crystallised Aragonite it has become famous among collectors.  This small cabinet specimen is sublime, with about 24 fine Aragonite crystals aesthetically splayed out from a whitish-grey limestone and Calcite matrix.  Individual hexagonal prisms are developed up to 4 cm in length and form semi-transparent to translucent crystals with flat pinacoid terminations.  The Aragonite is cream yet with a distinct tint of pale lemon.   Under LWUV the specimen transforms to a bright candyfloss pink which fades out to leave pale pinkish-tips and terminations.  This is a museum quality Aragonite from the Giumentaro mine on Sicily.
