This spectacular cluster of fine Calcite crystals is from the Mun. de Charcas municipality in the San Luis Potosí state of Mexico. An ex. matrix specimen, packs a lot of punch and would probably be classified as a large cabinet specimen. Seven major Calcite crystals constitute the structural elements and appended to these are several smaller Calcite crystals of up to 2.6 cm tall. The largest crystal measures 14.5 cm and all are opaque with translucent prism faces and a brilliant glassy lustre. All crystals are hexagonal in section and taper in long, gently curved prisms towards their pointed terminations. Two adjacent prism faces on most of the Calcite crystals have a preferential orientated coatings of micro-drusy mid-grey Calcite which clearly highlights the ‘way-up’ of the specimen while in-situ. A superb Calcite from the Josef Clemente Collection of southern Germany.
