The Stoneco Auglaize quarry is currently still active and extracts limestone for building stone and aggregate.  Within the sedimentary horizons unusually coloured Fluorite is found, often exhibiting a most attractive iridescence which has become a favourite amongst mineral collectors.  All of these qualities are captured in this charming miniature.  Covering a light grey matrix of well indurated (hard) limestone, iridescent clove to cinnamon brown transparent Fluorite forms as cubic crystals with multiple-stepped faces of 1 to 2 mm with a brilliant glassy to metallic lustre.  Overgrowing these are larger, wonderfully coloured Fluorite cubes to 0.6 cm on edge in transparent vibrant violet with zones of mauve which emit flashes of red.  A splendid Fluorite from the Stoneco Auglaize Quarry in Paulding County, Ohio, USA.
