What has become known as the W├Âlsendorf Fluorite Mining District, is an area north of Schwandorf, between Schwarzenfeld and Nabburg in Bavaria.  Mining began in this district probably before the 15th century and the last mine closed in 1987.  This Fluorite with Chalcopyrite and pale brick-red iron-stained Dolomite is a fabulous large cabinet specimen composed entirely of intergrown honey-brick-red to deep honey-lemon Fluorite crystals averaging 1.4 cm on edge, but occasionally attaining 2 and 3 cm.  Scattered over and included within these are numerous brassy-golden Chalcopyrite crystals, typically of between 1- and 2-mm diameter and superbly crystallised.  Preferentially coating orientated sides of the Fluorite are 1 to 2 mm curved rhombohedral, deep salmon-pink to brick-red Dolomite crystals.  This wonderfully showy Fluorite with Chalcopyrite and Dolomite is from the Dr Josef Clemente Collection of southern Germany.
