An excellent and highly aesthetic small cabinet specimen of caramel toffee brown Campylite, the barrel-shaped crystal variety of Mimetite. This could be from nowhere else in the UK other than Dry Gill mine in the Caldbeck Fells of Cumbria, England. The mine is situated by Drygill Beck, a beck being a stream, high up above and to the east of Roughton Gill. Commercially this mine had very little success yet has become a world famous locality. A characteristic opaque, milky white Quartz veinstone matrix is richly encrusted with highly lustrous Campylite crystals typically of between 0.5 and 1 cm diameter. The crystals are the classic barrel shape and I never cease to be amazed at how everyone of these specimens looks so different and unique, no matter have many you have seen before. It’s a real delight and will make a super addition to any collection!
