All of the Elbaite Tourmaline from the Coronel Murta pocket discovered in 2019 displays fabulous hues of hot pink, but this little beauty is a cornucopia of colours and clarity.  The Coronel Murta pegmatite is typical of those across the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, an area known the world over for its magnificent gem minerals.  This single, ex. matrix Elbaite crystal measures 3.5 cm tall and unlike many Tourmalines from this pocket, has an elongated cross-section, becoming more tabular, with a distorted hexagonal symmetry.  The crystal is completely transparent and gemmy, displaying excellent optical clarity, but is unsuitable for cutting due to a pervading infilling of inclusions, these being caused by dislocations within the Tourmaline lattice rather than included minerals.  The crystal grades from a lower half of gemmy pale cerise including colourless zones tinged with ephemeral hues of champaign. Higher in the pris, hot-cerise pink dominates then changes to a metallic magenta.  Its perfect, shallow pyramidal termination is lustrous, glassy and almost ruby-red.  Please note a small conchoidal chip in one prism face adjacent to the termination, but I can see this only under low magnification.  A gorgeous Elbaite Tourmaline from Coronel Murta, mounted a little off vertical on a small colourless acrylic base.
