This delightful 3.4 cm tall cluster of parallel Elbaite Tourmaline crystals is from a new gem pocket found in the Coronel Murta district of Minas Gerais in Brazil. The prisms grade from an opaque and translucent mix of cobalt and candy-pink prisms through to rich gemmy cranberry terminations. These gemmy termination extend 5 mm down into the prisms, which for the overall size is striking. Encrusted around the prism bases are small books of naturally etched crystals of lavender Lepidolite mica. The crystals have a fabulous bright glassy lustre which grades to slightly silky towards the base. When back-lit, the gemmy terminations glow and dazzle. No repairs have been made to this specimen and it is nicely displayed on a small colourless acrylic base.
