A beautiful 2.8 cm tall Elbaite Tourmaline crystal from a new gem pocket found in the Coronel Murta district of Minas Gerais in Brazil. The prism grades from a translucent mix of rich cerise and bubble gum pink throughout the lower half then becomes much more gemmy as the termination is approached. An almost colourless 5 mm tall zone completes the crystal prior to the 1 to 2 mm deep hot cerise-magenta cap. The crystal has a curved triangular cross-section; flat pinacoid termination and a fabulous bright glassy lustre. When back-lit it appears very gemmy overall. No repairs have been made to this specimen and it is displayed nicely on a small colourless acrylic base.
