Cubic prisms of dark green Fluorite stand out from a pervasive druse of snow-white Calcite covering glassy light grey Quartz crystals.  This is a more unusual specimen from the Milky Way Pocket at the Diana Maria mine close to Frosterley in Weardale, County Durham.  The largest Fluorite crystal measures 2 x 2 cm on its one exposed face, the remaining faces descend into the coating of Calcite and Quartz.  The Quartz crystals are themselves good for Weardale, forming sharp colourless to light grey sharp terminated crystals to almost 1.5 cm wide.  Both the Quartz and Fluorite crystals are naturally exposed from the carpet of opaque drusy Quartz, meaning they have not been etched free of Calcite in the laboratory.  In direct daylight the Fluorite fluoresces lilac purple patchily intermixed with green.  Note however when under LWUV the Fluorite crystals are a quite spectacular bright blue, certainly the most vivid shade of fluorescent blue in have noted from Weardale in a long time.
