This specimen of Milky Way Fluorite is a lighter green with much less tendency to appear black than that at the centre of this pocket.  One side of the Milky Way pocket extends towards the Truffle Pig Pocket, gradually changing in colour from an almost black green to a much more recognisable deep green.  This change in colour is mainly due to less natural fluorescence, indicating fewer rare earth elements (REEs) in the Fluorite lattice in the direction of Truffle Pig.  Cubic crystals averaging 2 to 2.5 cm on edge almost entirely cover a shallow dome of milky and slightly yellowish Quartz crystals to almost 1 cm wide.  The largest Fluorite crystal measures almost 4 cm and others measure to 3 cm.  Most of the cubic prisms have transparent to translucent corners and edges with opaque, white clouded and crazed face centres.  The larger Fluorite crystals do tend to be purer without the white centres and display green, yellow and lilac purple colour zoning.  This large cabinet specimen comes into its own when held in direct sunlight because all the larger crystals naturally fluoresce a gorgeous blackberry purple which contrasts wonderfully with the much less fluorescent smaller green prisms.  Under LWUV the Fluorite fluoresces bright lilac white against the non-fluorescent background of Quartz.  A quite delightful specimen of Fluorite and Quartz from the much sought-after Milky Way pocket at Diana Maria mine.
