An off-matrix complex interpenetrant twinned Fluorite crystal from the Fairy Holes Pocket at Lady Annabella mine to the south of Eastgate in Weardale, County Durham.  The Fairy Holes Pocket is named for a natural cave system into which the former Eastgate-Blue Circle Cement Quarry impinged and partly consumed.  The tallest crystal measures 3 cm and intersecting this is a splendid L-shaped twin.  The prisms have sharp edges and corners while the back face is rough from where it contacted in-situ.  The crystals show beautiful colour zoning with intermixed bands of leafy green, purple and almost colourless green.  I can immediately count 10 colour zones within one crystal and there will be more when observed more diligently.  Careful examination will reveal a small spherical fluid inclusion within one prism, although this is not mobile.  In direct daylight the specimen does not readily fluoresce, but the colour zoning becomes significantly apparent.  Under LWUV the entire crystal group fluoresces bright lilac white.
