Fluorite with Calcite

ID: CC21463
This gorgeous emerald green Fluorite is from the Papa Pocket in the Diana Maria mine near to Frosterley in Weardale, County Durham.  This glorious pocket is named for Diana’s father as he discovered it while helping with mining operations.  The Fluorite is characterised by its clarity and gemmy crystals which are beautifully displayed in this lovely cabinet specimen.  The ironstone matrix forms an ‘L’ shaped open vug in cross section.  This is coated with snow white micro-drusy Calcite overgrown with gemmy emerald green Fluorite cubic crystals up to at least 1.8 cm long.  The crystals mainly form interpenetrant twins of great transparency tending to gemmy.  Moved into direct daylight the Fluorite fluoresces bright rich lilac-purple and under LWUV, bright blue-white.  Fluorite from the Papa Pocket never fails to please and this gorgeous specimen will look magnificent once displayed.
