A beautifully colour zoned Fluorite miniature from Helen’s Pocket at the Lady Annabella mine at Eastgate in Weardale, County Durham.  This pocket is named for Helen Wilkinson, a well-known local collector and mine explorer.  The Lady Annabella mine began specimen recovery mining in 2020 and enjoyed remarkable success in the quality and variety of Fluorite discovered.  Transparent to gemmy sea-green Fluorite crystals form interpenetrant twins over a hidden ironstone matrix.  The largest crystal measures 1.9 x 1.6 x 1.3 cm and all contain an internal band of lilac, the structure of which is even more complex once viewed through a low power loupe.   In daylight the crystals become a more intense green, but not due to natural fluorescence.  Under LWUV all Fluorite crystals fluoresce bright lilac white.  A delightfully zoned Fluorite from Helen’s Pocket in Lady Annabella mine.
