This cabinet size Fluorite specimen is from the popular Milky Way Pocket in Diana Maria mine, a pocket which has proved a bit hit amongst collectors and connoisseurs of Weardale Fluorite.  Intermeshed cubic crystals to 2.4 cm on edge form a striking display piece with frosty white mottled face centres scattered among the dark green, almost black, lustrous Fluorite.  The Fluorite is a mid-chrome green, but is so intensely naturally fluorescent, it appears constantly dark purple, almost black.  Hence the name Milky Way, like stars set in the inky blackness of our galaxy.  In direct daylight the crystals become almost jet black by their intensity of deep Royal purple, magnificent!  Under LWUV the entire specimen fluoresces bright lilac white.
