Although this gnarled, somewhat hackly small cabinet specimen of crystallised Native Copper may only be attributed to Cornwall and not a specific mine, its provenance is long and prestigious.  It was originally in the Bolitho Collection at Ponsandane on the north east outskirts of Penzance.  The Bolitho family were (and remain) landowners in West Cornwall.  The specimen then passed to the collection of Lieutenant Colonel Williams.  More modern collectors are documented on the accompanying labels and cards.  The Native Copper forms an elongated chain of branching and twisting crystals which carry an old and aesthetic tarnished patina.  A little matrix still adheres to the specimen here and there.  This is a quite gorgeous Cornish Native Copper which bears a lot of history.
