The world-famous granite pegmatites of the Volodarsk-Volynskii mine in the Ukraine are most famous for their Topaz and Beryl. Beryl here often occurs as the yellowish-green variety Heliodor and this 6.3 cm high crystal is a beautiful miniature example. The hexagonal prism is rounded, as is the domed pyramidal termination, while the prism faces display exquisite etched patterns of nested squares and rectangles. The crystal is completely transparent and gemmy and is of a fabulous delicate pale limey-apple green, like a glass of dilute lime cordial. This ex. matrix specimen has a glassy yet waxy lustre and looks magnificent displayed either in a cabinet or boxed in a drawer. Please note there is the slightest tiny patch of bruising on the apex of the crystal, but this is micro and certainly does not detract from this specimen’s handsome aesthetic.
