A great small cabinet specimen of Cuprite encrusted Native Copper from Ray mine in the Dripping Spring Mountains of Arizona.  The Copper is completely masked by a rich coating of micro-crystallised acicular Cuprite, the variety Chalcotrichite.  This is a deep maroon red, lending an almost purple appearance to the specimen.  The hidden Native Copper forms hackly outgrowths around the specimen and the instant it is handled, it is instantly recognised as a solid mass of metal which will ring once tapped against a solid surface!
