Scheelite with Wolframite

ID: CC21543
A rich cluster of cream to dark tan Scheelite crystals cover an approximately 1.5 x 1 cm area on a blocky matrix of milky vein Quartz shot through with black blades of Wolframite and a coating of Muscovite mica. This fine small miniature is from Carrock mine in the Caldbeck Fells of Cumbria, England, a firm favourite with minerals collectors until collecting was strictly banned during the 1990’s. The Scheelite forms well developed, intergrown crystals which display many faces with a dull to semi-bright glassy lustre. The Scheelite fluoresces pale, ethereal bluish white under SWUV, and is non-fluorescent under long wave. It is accompanied with a Department of Mineralogy, British Museum (Natural History) label and a hand written Bryce M. Wright label dated 1867, marked at 4/- (four shillings, or 20 new pence (£0.20).
