Baryte on Dolomite

ID: CC21553
A truly delightful and perfect miniature blue Baryte on pearly, snow white Dolomite from the mines around the town of Frizington in the West Cumberland Iron Field of Cumbria.  Like many specimens from this mining district, specific mine names were often not attributed as they were not considered necessary or deliberately withheld to safeguard the locality for given dealers.  Superb vivid cornflower blue translucent Baryte crystals to over 4 cm tall form a tight cluster with perfect chisel terminations on a bed of Dolomite.  The Baryte has a brilliant glassy lustre and the Dolomite a beautiful pearlescent lustre, characteristic of this locality as the miners referred to it as “pearl spar”.
