The Purple Haze Pocket was discovered in the Diana Maria mine at Frosterley, Weardale, during specimen recovery operations in 2018.  This was a relatively small pocket with not a lot of material entering the market and this is genuinely one of very few specimens remaining.  This delightful large cabinet specimen has a matrix of massive fawn-yellow Fluorite overgrown with terminated stubby Quartz crystals which are almost entirely obscured with purple Fluorite crystals.  The Fluorite forms mainly as smaller single cubes and larger interpenetrant twins, the latter up to 2.4 cm on edge.  The crystals are a magnificent gemmy mauve-purple, the mauve containing strong suggestions of red, with opaque frosted snow-white centres.  A showy Weardale Fluorite with the added distinction as from the Purple Haze Pocket.  In direct daylight the purple intensifies to reddish-mauve and under LWUV all the Fluorite emits a strong and intense pure-white with some of the white centres fluorescing delicate salmon pink.
