ID: CC21561
A rare miniature of Cassiterite in Mica from Wheal Owla (aka Wheal Owles) at St. Agnes on the north coast of Cornwall, England, almost due north of the town of Redruth.  The specimen is unusual in being a simple binary mix of 2 to 3 mm size black metallic Cassiterite crystals evenly and richly distributed through a mass of intergrown hexagonal plate of Mica, most probably Muscovite.  The composition is typical of pneumatolytic veins in which the minerals have been transported and deposited from metal-rich gasses escaping from a pegmatite melt.  This interesting specimen is accompanied by three previous collector’s labels, two of which are differing versions from the collection (No. 91) of Col. G.T.G. Williams of Bodmin, Cornwall.
