Wolframite with Quartz

ID: CC21584
This beautifully crystallised 1.5 by 2.5 cm spray of acicular Wolframite crystals is from Wheal Jane at Baldhu in Cornwall, England, occurring most aesthetically with milky-grey translucent to colourless transparent Quartz crystals of a more acicular, needle-like habit, so characteristic of this mine.  The name Wolframite is now specifically replaced by the end-member minerals Hübnerite and Ferberite, while Wolframite is used to cover the intermediate mid-series between the iron and manganese end members.  This specimen has a sawn base enabling it to stand vertically and display to best effect.
