Looking at this small cabinet specimen of Cassiterite on a partly kaolinized granite matrix, it is apparent it originates form a China clay pit. The Old Beam mine worked tin lodes which were later mined into from the later Goonbarrow China Clay Works. The Cassiterite crystals are quite crude with an etched appearance and average 2 mm wide. They are dull black grading to dark clove brown and have a matt to mildly glassy lustre. The specimen is accompanied with three earlier labels.
