Wulfenite with Mimetite
ID:
CC21615
The La Morita mine lies in the State of Chihuahua, Mexico, only about 150 km south of the border with New Mexico. The mine works a hydrothermal Baryte vein and since about 2019 has produced some fabulous specimens of Wulfenite. This beautiful thumbnail comprises of a narrow, almost invisible matrix of granular pinkish Quartz matrix totally encrusted over its top surface with delicate lemon yellow spheres of Mimetite to about 2 mm diameter. Emerging from these towards one end are three progressively larger gemmy Wulfenite crystals forming rectangular tabular plates with bevelled edges. Smaller, equally gemmy Wulfenite crystals do occur across the whole of the Mimetite surface. All Wulfenites are a strong lemon yellow, yet with a diminished intensity on the prism faces due to their high level of transparency. A beautiful Wulfenite with Mimetite from La Morita.
