The Dal'negorsk mining district in Primorsky Kray in the Far-Eastern Region of Russia is renowned for its superb, optically clear and colourless Fluorite, this small cabinet specimen being an excellent example. The Fluorite tends to form elongated cubic crystals, all of a decent size, with some attaining 1.5 x 1.4 x 1.0 cm. Many of the prisms have slightly modified corners to the octahedron, although these are quite tiny. Many crystals contain occasional included frosted planes and imperfections but are on the whole perfectly gemmy, like pure ice. Holding a finger behind any crystal, I can see the detail of my fingerprint as if the Fluorite was not in front. The Fluorite cubes display well against a light sandy coloured matrix encrusted with millimetre scale Fluorite crystals. A beautiful and stunning specimen.
