This showy cabinet specimen of colourless Calcite is from the iron ore mines in the vicinity of the west Cumbrian town of Egremont, England.  Totally enveloping a matrix of reddish-grey Hematite and rusty ochre Limonite, a hedgehog-like array of excellent nail head calcite crystals cover the specimen projecting in all directions.  The longest crystals are up to 3 cm and most are transparent with some grading towards gemmy.  This is really well priced at $650 and will display beautifully.  The specimen is accompanied with a U.S. National Museum (Department of Mineralogy) label.
