The gold deposits at Rosia Montana in Alba County, Romania have been worked since at least Roman times and is one of Europe’s most classic and historic Gold deposits. This specimen is a stunning miniature of mainly hackly micro-ribbons and wires of Native Gold pervading a milky Quartz gossan matrix. The predominant coverage of Gold is across a 1.5 x 1.3 cm area, although hackly fronds can be seen over many parts of the display face and quite richly beneath it as well. A part-crystalised plate of Native Gold forms a 4 x 2 mm patch. Distributed amongst the Gold are several black octahedral crystals of likely Magnetite. A splendid miniature of Native Gold from Rosia Montana, also known as Verespatak.
