An unusual and well crystallised small cabinet specimen of Chalcocite from Crenver and Wheal Abraham in the civil parish of Crowan in Cornwall, England. The Chalcocite forms broad stacks of sooty black pseudo-cubic crystals. Crowan is just south of the better-known village of Praze-an-Beeble, about midway between Camborne and Helston. This specimen comes with a photocopy of what looks like an Arthur Russell label which records this specimen is from the George Croker Fox (1727-1781) Collection. It was once part of a larger specimen which broke into three parts, as shown on an accompanying photocopy of the original whole specimen. George Croker Fox was a shipping agent and merchant in Fowey and in 1762 founded the company G. C. Fox & Co.
