An excellent small cabinet specimen and location piece from the less well known Moanda mine in the L├ęboumbi-Leyou Department of Gabon.  This opencast manganese mine is an important producer of high-grade manganese ore and produces fine specimens of Rhodochrosite.  Covering a fine granular matrix of sooty black manganese ore, the undulating surface is richly covered with quite gemmy 2 to 3 mm tall light to deep cherry red Rhodochrosite crystals of scalenohedral habit. A terrific example from the Moanda mine in Gabon.
