This super combination of rhombohedral Smithsonite crystals with Mimetite and Galena is from the famous Tsumeb mine in the Oshikoto Region of Namibia, a mine which has become one of the most iconic in the world for its amazing diversity of rare and aesthetic mineral specimens. Colourless to pale milky white Smithsonite crystals form slightly curved rhombic prisms over a layer of Smithsonite micro-crystals on top of a solid block of fine granular crystallised Galena. The Galena provides a good representation of the typical lead ore mined at Tsumeb, as it must be remembered most of what was mined was massive ore and not the crystalline specimens usually see. The larger Smithsonite crystals are typically 0.8 to 1.2 cm broad with most containing an inclusion of pale toffee orange Smithsonite. At one edge, a cluster of five opaque pale lemon Mimetite crystals sit in the Smithsonite, the largest being 5 mm tall.
