An ex-matrix, single crystal of milky, sky blue Beryl forming a long hexagonal prism from Barra de Salinas in Coronel Murta, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is a beautiful and tactile specimen, one which just begs to be handled because its mirror-like lustrous faces and a colour more pale blueberry milkshake than mineral! At 11.7 cm tall the prism has alternating broad and narrow prism faces and a perfectly flat table pinacoid. The latter has two small chips on its edges and concentric circles of interference pattern and colours in the pinacoid, possibly from prior impact be this pocket disturbance or during mining. There is no sign of impact damage, this is only a suggestion. The entire prism body is this unusual milky blue save for the final 1.5 cm where it grades to a narrow yet gemmy termination. A terrific Beryl from Coronel Murta.
