Superb deep inky blue rosettes of bladed Azurite overgrow a layer of earthy, part-botryoidal greenish-turquoise Malachite covering a cream and brick red carbonate matrix. This spectacular large cabinet specimen is from the Morenci mine in the Copper Mountain District of Greenlee County, Arizona, USA. This is a gigantic open pit of over 2.1 x 1.2 km, together with underground workings, extracted a complex array of ores containing economic quantities of Cu-Mo-Au-Ag-Pb-Zn-U-Re and REEs long with Gypsum-Talc and Garnet. An outstanding display specimen of Azurite contrasting beautifully against the unusually coloured Malachite.
