Three good size crystals of emerald green Dioptase are perched along a matrix of snowy white rhombohedral Calcite crystals from the Tsumeb mine in the Oshikoto Region of Namibia.  Dioptase is one of the iconic species at Tsumeb, but this combination where it contrasts against white Calcite is the most sort after.  Dioptase is a copper silicate and here forms crystals up to 1 cm long, each with perfect terminations.  A few much smaller Dioptase crystals nestle around the larger.  Both the Dioptase and Calcite crystals are semi-transparent, each with translucent cores and appear bright with a glassy lustre.
