This totally eye-catching vibrant lime green Adamite is from the iconic Ojuela mine at Mapimí, in the state of Durango, Mexico. If you can’t just recall which one of the famous Mexican mines Ojuela is, then just picture the precarious suspension bridge which crosses the deep gorge to the mine entrance! Vertigo inducing or what? Luckily for us, we don’t have to cross it! The Adamite forms delightful hemispherical mounds composed of three dimensionally fanned crystals, each typically 1.5 cm tall. On the edges where cross-sections of the fans are visible, the colour grades from white at the crystal’s base, or root, subtly grading to zesty apple to lime green terminations with a dazzling glassy lustre. The wonderful colour and curved crystal habit make this a total eye-catcher.
