Harmotome is a relatively uncommon Zeolite mineral, but in the mines around St. Andreasberg can form groups of fine crystals. The St. Andreasberg mining district is one of Europe’s older mining regions with the establishment of the town in the 1480s and became established as a major producer of silver. Opaque, off-white Harmotome crystals with a glassy lustre and outer translucent shell cover a matrix of mixed Harmotome and Galena. Crystals average from 3 to 5 mm and the coverage is profuse, forming a shallow dome on the almost hexagonal shaped display face of this large miniature or small cabinet specimen.
