Fluorite with Sphalerite and Chalcopyrite

ID: CC21946
Elmwood mine at Carthage in Smith County, Tennessee, is now such a classic locality it seems it should have existed from the early pioneering days but only began in 1969.  The mine was (and now still is) worked for zinc but a happy consequence is the world-class Fluorite it encounters.  This cabinet specimen is composed of intergrown cubic Fluorite crystals of up to a little over 2 cm on edge, all of a rich blackberry purple and displaying superb colour zoning within.  A little brassy Chalcopyrite is scattered over the specimen in the form of 1 mm crystals.  The Fluorite is transparent to translucent and looks stunning when backlit.
