A handsome cabinet specimen of quite large interpenetrant Fluorite twins with two fine Galena crystals nestling amongst them. The Fluorite is translucent purple with some gemmy zones and is from the Purple Rain Pocket in Lady Annabella mine, Eastgate, Weardale, County Durham, England. All the Fluorite crystals are twinned and range between about 1.4 and 2.3 cm on their longest edges. As with all the Galena found in this pocket, the crystals are quite rounded following some phase of in-situ etching and likely erosion from fluid-cutting under high flow-rate aquifer conditions. One Galena is cubic with slightly modified corners and measures to 1.8 cm; the larger crystal is more complex and is up to 3.3 cm across. The Fluorite exhibits superb intense blackberry purple daylight fluorescence and under LWUV fluoresces uniform bright lavender white.
