ID: CC2229
A very gemmy lustrous twinned Calcite crystal from the iron mining region around the town of Egremont in west Cumbria, England. This ‘heart’ twin Calcite crystal was in the Lindsay Greenbank Collection. Lindsay got this in an exchange with the Department of Mineralogy and Petrology at the University of Cambridge and the Cambridge label accompanies this specimen, together with that from Lindsay’s Collection (No. L.G. 127-1549). The Calcite is colourless with striations on the crystal faces which display the orientation of the three intersecting pyramid faces to both twins, with an overall triangular aspect to the specimen. A small patch of red-brown Hematite is seen on the contact area at the back of the specimen. An excellent gemmy Calcite heart twin from West Cumbria.
