The Gowganda area in the Cobalt-Gowganda Region of Ontario, Canada, is populated by many Native Silver producing mines. This 5.3 x 8.9 x 0.9 cm sawn slab has been polished on one face to reveal a detailed cross-section displaying arborescent fronds of Native Silver pervading a matrix of translucent to opaque Quartz. The Native Silver forms interconnected branches of up to 4 cm long and has maintained its bright metallic bright silver colour and lustre. If this surface has been coated in some form of varnish to prevent oxidation, it certainly is not apparent. An excellent polished specimen which will make a splendid addition to a collection of native elements.
