The famous Ivigtut Cryolite Deposit is on the western coast of southern Greenland, a location set in stunning scenery of water, mountains and snow.  This fine small cabinet specimen displays an excellent coverage of both Thomsenolite and Ralstonite crystals, but before progressing any further, I must point out that Ralstonite is now renamed Hydrokenoralstonite.  Ivigtut is type locality for both species.  The Hydrokenoralstonite forms colourless octahedral crystals and the Thomsenolite, elongated steep-sided square pyramidal crystals with flat pinacoids and generally stained rusty brown with iron hydroxides.  Specimens from this long worked-out mine are becoming increasingly difficult to find, and this is a super example.  The Ivigtut Cryolite Deposit is located at Ivittuut (Ivigtut) on Arsuk Fjord, Sermersooq, Greenland.
